Twisted, Indeed!!!

I used to be a huge fan of Michael Jackson and stood by him in 1993, when the first child accused him of molestation. But this time, I can't. Reading this book not only left me speechless about this man freakish ways, but left me feeling angry that just because he is a star he feels he should get a pass. How many black men in the real world will get a pass? How can anyone defend this man after he admits to sleeping with little boys?!!! I am sorry, but Michael has no one to blame for his current situation but him. He caused all of this from sleeping in oxygen tanks to dangling his "black" child out the window. We all know that none of his kids are black and that ALONE is the main reason why I don't respect him. The sad part about it is Michael lives in a fantasy world and not in reality. I kinda feel sorry for him, but this is his entire fault.

Save your money and your time and stay away from this book.

I am not a Michael Jackson fan nor do I think I ever was. Rather I have admired his immense musical talent and creativity. I also find his personal life and eccentricities very interesting. It seems to me that Michael Jackson is multifaceted and not one-dimensional like many celebrities. So I thought I'd pick up this book and perhaps learn a little more about him?

"Freak!" is a very mean-spirited book written by the National Enquirer. I never try to judge a book by the cover, however in this instance I should have. The entire book is written with such venom and hate and malice. It seems as if the writer is taking great pleasure in spewing rumors, second-hand gossip and complete lies about Michael Jackson. Why is that?

The entire book is centered on a supposed 2002 book proposal that Michael Jackson conducted regarding a children's book. It starts and ends with this premise and reminds the reader that no publisher in his or her right mind would be interested in publishing a book by "Wacko Jacko."

"Freak!" basically discusses the child molestation allegations of 1993 in great detail. It is the opinion of this author/The National Enquirer that Michael Jackson is a "freak" whom's life changed dramatically when these allegations surfaced. And it goes on to state that Michael Jackson conducted an elaborate publicity scheme (marrying the King's daughter) only to clear his name within the jury of public opinion.

This book even has the audaciousness to imply that Michael Jackson didn't naturally father his children based on "reports." What reports?? And by the way, who are these "insiders" and "family friends" that the book mentions? Why aren't there any names?

As stated, there isn't any interviews or research conducted. The entire book is just regurgitated gossip that has been promulgated within the pages of the National Enquirer for years. They even have the nerve to reference La Toya Jackson's book and quotes she made about her brother more than 10 years ago to the effect that he was a molester. The author of this book didn't bother to mention that La Toya recanted her statements about Michael Jackson years ago.

The book also attacks Michael Jackson personally (his physical appearance and his mental state). The author wants the reader to believe that Michael Jackson is delusional and "clinically depressed." But there aren't any facts to back up these salacious claims.

If you're fascinated with the life of Michael Jackson and are searching for the truth then this book is not for you. Save your money and your time and stay away from this book.

As Plain as the Nose on his Face

"Freak n:
a person or animal on exhibition as an example of a strange deviation from nature; a monster.
-Webster's Dictionary"

Thus begins Nick Bishop's biopic "from the files of the National Enquirer." Ok, I admit it: I cheat my diet now and then with a Krispy Kreme donut, & sometimes I read the ever erudite Enquirer - what else to do when stranded in a slow-moving check-out line? Considering the source, this compilation of the life, times, and tribulations of The Gloved One is amazingly articulate. Sure , it would have benfitted from better proof-reading: for instance "O.J would eventually avoid criminal prosecution" - er - actually we all witnessed the media circus of and surrounding this criminal prosecution - what Orenthal James Simpson avoided was criminal *conviction*; and some fractured sentences -

It appears this book is often either picked or panned depending upon the reviewer's opinion of the subject. (Notice the preponderance of "all or nothing" one or five stars infra.) Relax! And remember the tabloid from which this sprang: an entertaining diversion, a guilty pleasure about as substantial and nutritious as a Krispy Kreme.

So, does the amazingly talented, artificially androgynous, conspicuously overly cosmetically surgerized Michael Jackson fit Mr. Webster's definition? In the words of the old proverb: "It's as plain as the nose on his face!" Reviewed by TundraVision.

I Agree with Reader from Portland...

I'm sorry that the truth does hurt Michael Jackson fans.
But....
This book is only an account of what Michael himself has chosen to do with his life. It's not about LOVE or HATE, it's just about a cute, talented little boy who grew up to be a freak. (Don't kill the messenger!) If people don't like the plain & obvious truth, then don't read a book titled "Freak!" about Michael Jackson. But, if you are wondering what in the hell is going on with the King??? of Pop, this book is highly recommended.
I rather enjoyed it!

The truth hurts

How can someone pan a book that she briefly browsed in a store
and compare the book's subject to Iraq? If you're a fan, the book's not for you, especially if you're a mindless follower. Actually the book's documentation is pretty good and a lot of it is public knowledge.
The shocker is that someone who has so much evidence against him can stay out of jail by buying his way out (which actually makes the accusers who accept money just as culpable since they seem more interested in money than justice).
It's fascinating material, admittedly not from your best source, although in recent years the Enquirer has had more real-breaking stories than the mainstream press.
Jackson is exposed for something other than what he'd like you to think and it's hard to determine what he's about. It was a terrific
read. I hope to find more books with even more stuff on this
weirdo.

Very Informative

There are a lot of Michael Jackson fans who are not going to like this book, but for those of us who are not blinded by celebrity this is worth reading. Whatever you feel about Jackson, this book is proof that he has lived a bizarre life, that he is not the man he appears to be in front of his fans and TV cameras. I found this book very interesting because it reveals the man behind the carefully crafted Hollywood image and it's not always a pretty picture.

Now if this book didn't have emblazoned on its cover: "From the files of the National Enquirer," perhaps my fellow reviewers wouldn't have judged it so harshly. After all, the Enquirer does have quite a trashy reputation (but we all still read the headlines while waiting in the checkout line at the supermarket). Nevertheless, this book is an intriguing read. It moves along at a good pace and is fairly well-written, minus a couple of typos.
If Michael Jackson is considered a freak, it is his own doing, for he masterminded many of the publicity stunts in order to gain and enhance an "edgy" image. He turned his life and his face into National Enquirer News. Sadly, all of this caught up to him, and Mr. Bishop explains how Jackson is now looked upon as a pathetic freak, a walking sideshow, a space alien misogynist with an unnatural thirst for pre-pubescent boys. From reading this book, one cannot help but draw parallels to another well-known eccentric, Mr. Howard Hughes. A good portion of the book is devoted to the 1993 Jordie Chandler affair and the eventual payoff. Bishop goes into graphic detail relaying Jackson's agony after he learned of molestation charges against him... It's all there for you to read in glorious technicolor yawns.
Believe it or not, Bishop tries to present positive aspects of Jackson's life as well, so this book is not all negative press. It is a compelling read for anybody interested in the King of Pop.

Every day Michael Jackson is faced by judging, lying press & paparazzi. In my eyes he's a thoughtful, kind, inspiring person who is serving life for the unforgivable crime of being different. I'm a giant fan, and seeing this book makes me feel sick. The National Enquirer? Down there with the Sun and the News Of The World: would sell their soul just to get a story sold. If you want a half decent read, try his autobiography instead.

Oh Jeez!

The title alone should tell you that this book is mean spirited & was made to make money by slandering Michael Jackson's name. It's written by a tabloid, enough said. Wake up, People! Stop believing everything you read!
